my passion lies in sharing queer food stories through independent research and creative projects.
I’m a queer food anthropologist dedicated to understanding, exploring, and amplifying past and current queer and trans voices in food.
My graduate research at New York University explored how LGBTQA+ and intersectional communities are often overlooked in mainstream media and in response to that; how to build community for queer folks in food communities. After receiving my M.A., I co-founded a non-profit with a handful of queer folks, including current Executive Director and dear friend Vanessa Parish, called Queer Food Foundation, addressing the need for visibility with queer/trans folks in food and beverage.
Myself, alongside two amazing colleagues, Ashley Scheideberg and Javonne Alonzo, presented at Boston University’s Queer Food Conference in April 2024 on Teaching Queer Food at a University Level where after, we announced the creation of a new Queer Food Journal, Pantry Magazine, with Issue 1 debuting this Spring/Summer 2025. This journal is part of a larger academic project called Pantry Collective where we explores the role queer food organizations, specifically intersectional organizations, play at a national level in our food system through a multi-disciplinary lens. Most recently, our work was selected to be presented at ASFA | AFHVS 2025 Conference.
I am currently in the weeds of writing a chapter titled Taste, Identity, and Resistance in Food Justice Movements for an academic food studies book, scheduled for release in late summer 2025.
I’ve been honored to speak at various panels and events across the U.S. and the U.K., including Penn State University, New York University, the Food Cosmogonies Short Course (UK), and Catawba College.
